Common Issues and Solutions
Solutions to common problems when using BeefyGuard bot.
Bot Not Responding
Issue: Bot doesn't respond to commands
Solutions:
- Check if bot is online: Use
/botinfocommand - Verify bot has admin permissions
- Make sure you're using the correct bot username:
@beefyguard_bot - Try restarting the bot (contact support if you're the owner)
Detection Not Working
Issue: Bot doesn't detect impersonators
Solutions:
- Check detection settings in dashboard:
- "Check on Join" should be enabled
- "Check on Name Change" should be enabled
- Similarity threshold should be set (default: 0.85)
- Verify admin list is synced: Use
/sync_admins - Check if user is whitelisted: Use
/list_whitelist - Test with a known impersonator name
Issue: Too many false positives
Solutions:
- Increase similarity threshold (e.g., from 0.85 to 0.90)
- Add legitimate users to whitelist
- Review flagged names list: Use
/show_flagged - Adjust detection sensitivity in dashboard
Dashboard Access Issues
Issue: Can't access dashboard
Solutions:
- Make sure you're an admin of the group
- Get a fresh link: Use
/dashboardcommand again - Check if link expired (links expire after 24 hours)
- Try different browser or clear cache
Issue: Settings not saving
Solutions:
- Check internet connection
- Refresh the page
- Try logging out and back in
- Check browser console for errors
Permission Errors
Issue: "You are not an admin" error
Solutions:
- Verify you have admin permissions in the group
- Check bot has admin permissions
- Try syncing admins: Use
/sync_admins - Contact group owner if you should be admin
Issue: Bot missing permissions
Solutions:
- Check bot permissions with
/botinfo - Grant required permissions:
- Delete messages
- Ban users
- Restrict members
- Re-add bot as admin if needed
Announcement Issues
Issue: Announcements not forwarding
Solutions:
- Check announcement channel ID is set correctly
- Verify bot is admin in announcement channel
- Enable "Announcement Forwarding" in dashboard
- Check channel ID format (should start with -100)
Issue: Announcements not pinning
Solutions:
- Enable "Auto Pin Announcements" in dashboard
- Set pin duration (Forever, 1-30 days)
- Verify bot has "Pin messages" permission
- Check if pin limit reached (Telegram allows 5 pins max)
Moderation Issues
Issue: Anti-spam not working
Solutions:
- Enable "Anti-Spam" in dashboard
- Configure flood limits:
- Message limit (default: 5)
- Time window (default: 10 seconds)
- Set flood action (mute, warn, kick, ban)
- Test with test messages
Issue: Auto-delete not working
Solutions:
- Check "Auto Delete Bot Messages" is enabled
- Set delete delay (in minutes)
- Verify bot has "Delete messages" permission
- Check if messages are older than delete delay
Command Issues
Issue: Command not found
Solutions:
- Check command spelling (case-sensitive)
- Verify command is available in your context (some are group-only)
- Try refreshing commands:
/refresh_commands(owner only) - Check bot is responding to other commands
Issue: Command requires admin
Solutions:
- Verify you have admin permissions
- Check bot recognizes you as admin: Use
/list_admins - Try syncing admins: Use
/sync_admins - Contact group owner if you should be admin
Performance Issues
Issue: Bot is slow
Solutions:
- Check scan interval (lower = more frequent scans)
- Reduce scan batch size if set too high
- Check server status (contact support)
- Review group size (very large groups may be slower)
Issue: High resource usage
Solutions:
- Increase scan interval (e.g., from 30 to 60 minutes)
- Reduce recent joiners count
- Disable unnecessary features
- Contact support for optimization
